Eli’s World

Eli Has Company and Went to a Dog Show

Dear mom Connie and all my blog friends,
It seems my little life is starting to get much busier since I started going to school.  Every day, Mom Maggi takes me out all by myself and we walk around her sons’ old basketball court. When she whispers go go go-I trot along to one end and then turn and trot back.  I am doing very well.  If I start to run, she tightens my lead a little bit and I remember that she’s an old gal and trotting is about the best speed she can do.  It’s really ok, because I get to do a lot of running with DC and Hot Shot.  This stand and watch stuff is a bit harder for mom to communicate; but, we are doing much better.  I personally think I look very cute sitting with my head cocked to one side; but, since no treats come my way when I do that, guess I’ll have to stand up nicely.  May leave the cocked head part in cause it’s pretty darn cute.
Thursday, we had a visitor come for the weekend.  Her name is Sophia and she’s a VERY TALL dog.  At first, I stayed by Daisy and watched while DC played with her.  Pretty soon I realized she is very nice and gentle  and we all played and played.  She likes to steal my toys and run with them.  I really told her off a few times.  But she is really a very pretty girl.  I LOVE long legged women.  Mom said not to get any ideas-something about not wanting any Italian Havaspinones in the family.  There is also the drawback of spinone spit.  Friday night I had to have another bath.
Then, just when I thought my life was as adventuresome as it could get, Saturday morning-very early-it was dark-mom picked me out of bed, wrapped me in my Dina blanket and put me in that awful machine she calls a car.  But, maybe because I’m getting bigger; or, maybe because I was sooooo sleepy, I didn’t get sick while we drove and drove and drove far away. Mom Maggi has this little square thing she puts in the window that tells her where to turn and stuff so she won’t get lost.  Hot Shot and DC says I’m lucky she has it now because they had several adventures where mom didn’t know where she was!!!  Knowing mom Mag like I do now, I can see that happening.
We finally stopped at a very big building surrounded by cement that was full of cars.  Mom put my lead on and took me to a place with a little grass where I p’d and poohed immediately-boy did I need to go!!  But instead of leaving my pooh, Mom Mag whisked out a plastic bag and scooped my pooh right up and put it in the trash.  All the way to the trash can she was calling people who left their dog’s pooh in that grass very bad names-and believe me-there were several big piles that the other dog’s mom’s and dad’s would have been blind to miss.  But she told me I was such a wonderful good boy for doing my duty and I let her know I thought she was a good girl for doing hers lol.
In the building there were a zillion other dogs.  My sakes-big, small, long tall, shot, furry and even naked ones with some hair on the top of their heads. Me oh my, what a site that was!!!  I wasn’t a bit afraid: but, mom reminded me to stay very close by because all dogs may not be my friend.  Karen was there with her TFT and Ronda and my personal photographer, Krista.  They all loved on me and I liked it.  Then I met some of mom Maggi’s friends.  Jennifer said I was very nice; and, she thought my rear was fabulous.  Mom and I had to keep walking on my lead away from her!!!!! (some of these people are a little strange, but nice)  Several people commented on how great my coat was for my age and my rear was a topic of conversation.  Then I saw HER-fickled boy that I am-the minute I saw Lizzie again, all thoughts of Sophia fled my mind.  She was glad to see me too-but she was all pretty for the show; so, we couldn’t play.  She’s a champion now, but is not the least bit affected by this.  Not snotty at all. I LOVE HER!!!!
Saw Auntie Lotus looking her beautiful self.  She was in the ring doing what mom and I practice.  hmmmmmm maybe someday mom Mag and I may try that out. Then I met Mr. Bennett.  He was very nice to me.
Mom then took me to a special place and put me in my crate for a nap.  Mom Mag was afraid I’d fuss since I am free as a bird at home now that I have good manners; but, I was pretty tired and decided a nap would be good.  Next thing I know-it was outside-do my duty-into the car and on the way home.  I slept all the way without one puky thought.  Whoa-what a day!!!
Today, I didn’t have to practice-just play and rest-rest and play on a beautiful sunny day.  Mom said I deserved a day off since I was so good yesterday.  Think she’s the one who wanted the day off.  Getting up early yesterday isn’t her idea of fun.  She’s a late to bed late to rise type of gal.  But I love her!!
My hubrother’s family stopped by and took Sophia home.  We will miss her; but, it will be nice having just the family here for a while. Can’t wait for tomorrow-DC has to have a spinone spit removal bath HEE HEE HEE!!!  His turn.
Until my next big adventure-my love to all.
Eli

Eli’s World

Eli went to Class

Dear mom Connie,
I realize recently wrote you a note; but, I couldn’t wait until next week to tell you about mom Maggi’s and my latest adventure.
Yesterday evening she was getting all dressed up to go out.  I knew she was going somewhere because she used lots of stuff on her face.  When we’re staying home, she runs a brush through her hair and puts a little stuff on her eyes.  Going out, she gets lots of little containers out plus she plugs something in she uses on her hair. So, since I hate riding in the car, I hid.  But she found me under the bed and off we went.  She said we were going to school.
We were on a big wide road called an interstate and I was so surprised.  I didn’t feel sick at all. Made it over 50 miles.  But then she took some hilly country roads.  She didn’t realize I was feeling queasy.  When we got to the “school”, she leaned down to get her purse and I tried to get around her back to get out of the car.  But the door was shut.  I looked around and noted a gap in mom’s jeans where she was leaning over and decided, “what the h–l” ( I leaned that word from my dad Sam)  and puked down the back of her jeans.  You should have heard that “OHHHHH, EEEEEELIIIII!!!!” But on the whole, mom Mag took things in stride and told me she was so proud I got so far without a mishap.  Since we now carry loads of towels in the car we cleaned up pretty good.  Mom said we stank; but, humans kinda get mixed up about what smells good and what smells bad.  After I got a little fresh air, I was feeling fine.
Mom told me to remember, “all dogs are not your friends, especially terriers,: so keep close to me.”  Well, there were dogs of all shapes and sizes.  Some were really tall, wolfhounds mom said, and some little like me.  And best of all, there was Lizzie.  I LOVE HER!!!! She’s a black and white Hav who belongs to a friend of mom’s, Natasha.  Walking around the ring, I did beautifully because I following my true love.  Lizzie’s hu mom really liked me a lot, too. She said I was beautiful!!  Hee Hee
My leash walking improved each time on what they called the down and back. Mom Maggi is learning I”m a loose lead, get a move on fellow.  She is learning, you know.  I let the lady there look at my beautiful new teeth; then I sat down.  But by the third time on the table I only sat down once. When I sit down, mom hides my treat.  I think she’s trying to tell me something.  We’ll figure it out.  I still don’t free bait for the judge at all-I WANT TO GO GET MY TREAT!!!! But mom seems to be getting the education I’m giving her, and I’m sure she’ll figure it out.
Couldn’t believe how happy mom was when we left school.  She told me how brave I had been not to be afraid of a new situation, and how well I had done on my leash, and how she knew I was a smart little guy.  The truth is, it’s easy to be brave when mom Mag is keeping me safe, and when I want to look like a tough guy for Lizzie.  And mom’s the one that’s learning how I like to move and wear my lead.
I slept all the way home without another “puke down the pants” incident.
It was fun, mom Connie.  Hope you are proud of me.
Love,
Eli
