Greyhounds
Plato, in 400 BC. observes this of the Greyhound: “He is reasonably scented to find out, speedy and quick of foot to follow, and fierce and strong to take and overcome, yet silent, coming upon his prey unawares.”
In the 14th Century, Dame Juliana Berners penned (The Boke of St. Albans, 1486), “A greyhounde should be headed lyke a snake, And neckyd lyke a drake, Fotyd lyke a cat, Tayled lyke a ratte, Syded lyke a teme, And chyned lyke a bream, the fyrste yere he must lerne to fede, The seconde yere to feld him lede. The thyrde yere he is felow lyke. The fourth yere there is none syke. The fifth yere he is good ynough. The syxth yere he shall hold the plough, he seventh yere he will avaylle, Grete bytches for assayle. But when he is come to the ninth yere Have him then to the tannere. For the best hounde that ever bytch had At the ninth yere is full bad.”

In 1950, Will Hally wrote: “There have always been Greyhounds so nearly perfect that it is sheer foolishness to expect that the best of the past can be bettered by the best of the present. In this ancient breed, it is simply not possible to produce an exhibit which can honestly be described as the best ever, but what we can do and are doing is to breed hounds which stand comparison with any of the past…”
With this in mind, our Bella, Ch. Shylo Greycott Beignet, was bred to Tygar, Ch. Huzzah Red Alert. Thank you Scott Thomson, Bruce Clark, and Stephen Fisher, for allowing beautiful Bella to live with us. Thank you Lorrie Richer for allowing the use of Tygar’s finite frozen semen. It is truly amazing that 16 years after being collected, Tygar can still pass on his awesome genes! Special thanks to Scott Thomson for giving so generously his expert advice and guiding me in what would otherwise be a very “grey” path.
Bella is group placing, from an all Champion litter, and Aunt to the #1 Greyhound in the US. Tygar is group winning, #2 Greyhound for three years in the US, with multiple Westminster AOM as well as a Specialty winner.

Sugar Plum, Harbor’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy was awarded Reserve Winners Bitch and Best Puppy at The GCA National, Oct. 5, 2011.National Judge, Frank Sabella writes, “Now came the bitches and this is when the fun for me truly began. As a judge there is nothing more satisfying than to have choices, and when the quality is high the choices give one great pleasure. The winner of the 9 – 12 class, Best Puppy, and Reserve Winners Bitch is going to mature into something special. Her name is Harbor’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. She has for me an exquisite head and eye, her curves are all in the right places, and she is a perfect mover both coming and going, and in the circle, perfection.” Sugar Plum is owned and expertly loved by Dr. Tom Butler.
The Nutcracker litter at 8 weeks.
